About AK Circle
AK Circle is an independent, community-minded guide to everyday life in Alaska. We write for people who are moving here, people who just arrived, and longtime Alaskans who want a handy reference for the things that come up every year: winter prep, daylight, aurora forecasts and where to spend a free weekend.
What we cover
- Moving to Alaska: routes north, shipping, residency steps and cost-of-living realities
- Daylight and seasons: real numbers and how to live with them
- Northern lights: when, where and how to read forecasts
- Things to do in Anchorage, summer and winter
- Winter living: vehicles, homes, clothing and mindset
How we research
We draw on official and primary sources such as Alaska state agencies, NOAA, the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute and land management agencies, along with widely shared local knowledge. Rules, fees, dates and schedules change, so our guides tell you where to confirm current details instead of quoting numbers that may go stale.
What we are not
AK Circle isn't a government agency, a moving company or a tour operator, and we don't accept payment to recommend businesses. We don't publish reviews or ratings.
